Chandler Vice Mayor Kevin Harkte is vying for the main city position in the East Valley city.
Harkte announced he is officially running for mayor. He’s served on city council since 2011, and serves regionally on economic, transportation and human services boards with the Maricopa Association of Governments and the Regional Public Transportation Authority. Hartke is also a pastor at Trinity Christian Fellowship and is director of nonprofit For Our City — Chandler.
Campaign finance reports show Hartke filed a statement of organization in February.
“I continue to be honored to serve our community. Over the past few years, Chandler has been recognized as one of the top cities for people to live and work,” Hartke said. “I will continue to work hard to bring jobs to our community, keep our neighborhoods safe and build a brighter future for Chandler and its children. Let’s work together to champion Chandler’s legacy as a world class community!”
Jay Tibshraeny has been Chandler’s mayor since 2011.
The city’s general election for mayor will be Nov. 6, 2018. Chandler has been a hotbed for job growth, and has major operations from tech-focused companies, including Boeing (NYSE: BA), Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC).
